We support Romanian communities in 3D printing

3D printing for the community: we printed and donated over 100 face shields to medical institutions in Iași. Here's how you can help too.

Anyone who owns a 3D printer can get involved in helping.

Support the institutions and medical staff in your area!

The digital model is OPEN SOURCE.

On the initiative of the PRUSA 3D we also started printing visors for institutions and medical centers in Iași.

As far as logistics allowed us, we managed to cover the requests from our city (Iași). We already have over 100 visors printed and donated.

What is the need for institutions during this time?

Even if the restrictions will relax little by little, safety measures will be kept for a long time.

So most likely many institutions, clinics or hospitals still need large stocks of protective equipment.

We have kept in touch with local institutions and we currently know they still need over 10,000 visors. And that is only locally, in Iași.

The requests come from: medical centers, care centers, gendarmerie, police and other public institutions that have not stopped their activity throughout this pandemic period.

If you also have a 3D printer, you can help the institutions in your area by printing visors or other necessary pieces of equipment

What should you do?

  • Get in touch with the institutions in your area: ask them if this additional equipment would help them (hospitals, clinics, care centers, police, firefighters, town halls, etc.).
  • Download these materials that will help you in printing the necessary objects:

Download the digital model file.

Go through the assembly manual.

Watch the assembly clip.

Learn how to sterilize visors.

How did we, at IRIS Robotics, do it?

In order to respond as best as possible to this reaction, we increased the stock of 3D printers.

This is so that we can respond to the high demand for printers, but also to actively participate in this initiative. Let's make the necessary materials and donate them to local institutions.

Which 3D printers did we use? And how did we carry out all the activity?

  • We purchased 2 3D printers Model PRUSA MK3S.
  • We printed 16 pcs. (visors) per day. It takes about 22-24 hours to print.
  • We donated packages of 50 visors to hospitals and public institutions.
  • We also printed other complementary accessories that people needed, such as snorkel mask adapters (you can also help with complementary accessories, not just visors).
  • Those of atRoyal Print helped us with the stock of plexiglass panels and cutting them into perfect shapes for assembling the visors.
  • We worked alongside a small army of heroes who carefully prepared and sterilized each product, assembled the packages, liaised with the institutions and distributed them to those who had need.

What materials did we use?

PET-G: it is a harder material, so that the visors are resistant. It has a thermal resistance of up to 80°C. You can find all the material specifications in the PETG material datasheet (PDF).

Thus, we managed to support many communities, companies and individuals who wanted to get involved in this initiative.

Below you can find a gallery that includes images from the first series of donated production.

We thank and congratulate everyone involved!
